Customizing the Laser Treatment
CustomVue is the process of reshaping your cornea using your individualized wavefront measurements to give you your Personal Best Vision.
On the day of the procedure, anesthetic drops are placed into your eye. If you are a candidate for CustomVue, your unique correction information is transferred from the WaveScan® to the VISX® STAR SA excimer laser and guides the laser throughout the procedure.
The cool beam from the laser then gently reshapes the cornea, often in less than a minute, removing microscopic amounts of tissue - less than the thickness of a human hair in most cases, to create a new curvature. During the procedure, the 3D ACTIVETRAK™ eye tracker follows the eye's tiniest moves. It automatically repositions the laser to keep the laser focused where Dr. Chaiken wants it, so you can relax during the procedure.

Another aspect of the CustomVue FDA study addressed night vision. In the past, laser vision correction patients have occasionally complained about their night vision. Of course, these symptoms can even be present in people without LASIK whose vision is corrected with glasses or contact lenses. However, in the CustomVue FDA clinical study, more people were satisfied or very satisfied with their night vision after their CustomVue LASIK as compared to the prior level of satisfaction using glasses or contact lenses.
Although no individual surgical outcome can be guaranteed, these clinical studies, nevertheless, show the extraordinary effectiveness of this exciting new technology.
